Upselling products is one of the most common ways to maximize your Shopify store’s profit. If a customer is already willing to purchase an item, they are likely to pay money for a better version of it. Using an upsell app is highly recommended to achieve your goal and make your product’s upgrade more desirable.

Out of all upsell apps on Shopify, Bold Upsell is a convenient software to make your upselling process easier. Whether you are trying to promote more personalized upgrade recommendations or simplify the process of offering upsells, this app will help you earn more from your customers.

Without further ado, let’s review all the details that Bold Upsell has to offer, from pricing, features, to services. Let’s get started!

What is Bold Upsell?

What is Bold Upsell?

Bold Upsell is an official Shopify app created by Bold Commerce - one of North America’s quick-growing tech companies. The company has provided innovative eCommerce technology to more than 90,000 brands in 170+ countries around the world.

The app lets you create upsell funnels by allowing users to display pop-ups with up to three consecutive rounds of upsells to a given customer.

At the moment, Bold Upsell is only available for Shopify stores and has gained 1515 reviews from merchants with an average rating of 4.6/5 stars.

How does Bold Upsell work?

Often listed in top Shopify upsell apps, you will be happy to know that Bold Upsell lives up to its reputation. In fact, the whole setup process would not take you more than ten minutes.

Bold Upsell has an easy-to-use interface, and it doesn’t take long for you to get it up and run because the guide is simple to follow. Just by looking at the demo store, you can understand the interface and functionality of the app. There are no visible glitches when I use the app, and all the features are clearly labeled.

That said, how does Bold Upsell really work? The app lets you create upsell funnels by allowing users to display upsell offers in the form of pop-ups to customers before and during the checkout process.

After an upsell offer is activated in the app, a pop-up modal will appear when a customer adds the triggered product to their cart. If the customer accepts, the offer will replace the original product with the upsell product that was set in the upsell funnel.

In short, these Funnels let users set up multiple offers and show additional upsell items to customers after the initial offering. Customers will always see the first product offer in the funnel, regardless of accepting the initial offering or not. However, once the customer declines two offers in a row during the funnel process, the app will immediately stop spamming the customer.

For the upsell offer, Bold Upsell provides three types of upsell and encourage buyers to upgrade their purchase:

  • When they add a product to the cart

  • When they are completing the checkout process

  • When they’ve completed the purchase

More than that, Bold Upsell lets the users create cross-sell offers, which offer complementary products to an item that a buyer has just added to the cart.

As a sneak peek, here is how to create an upsell offer using Bold Upsell:

  1. From within the Bold Upsell’s admin, select Offers, then Create an offer.

  2. Enter a suitable name for your offer.

  3. Click on Set A Trigger, then Add to cart, then select the Upsell bubble.

  4. Click on Select Products.

  5. Select Add to add the product you want to trigger the offer.

  6. Select Continue **with selected items.

  7. Under the “Offer Products,” click on Select Products.

  8. Here, you can enter a title, description, and select desired Products, then Add **them next to the discounted product.

  9. Click on Continue **to move on with selected products.

  10. Click on the Set another offer button on the “Offer accepted” or “Offer declined” option (optional).

  11. Repeat Steps 7 to 10 **to complete the funnel.

  12. Set Date Range, then enter a Start Date and End Date; this is optional.

  13. Choose any of the “Additional Options.”

  14. Save Offer.

As you can see, even though there are quite a few steps, you can easily go through the whole process and set up a comprehensive upsell funnel for your store. And don’t worry if this would take you much time to set up; I only needed about 15 minutes to understand the steps and set up a funnel.

  • True upsells: Let shoppers purchase an upgraded version of the product they’ve just added to the cart, replacing the original item in the cart.

  • Cross-sells: Let customers buy products that work well with the items they’ve picked, adding these products to the cart alongside the original choice, and let buyers check out all at once.

  • Set offer triggers: Creating different product offers based on specific items in a shopper’s cart, the total value of their purchase, and even time/date of the purchase.

  • Change prices: Options to display the total cost of the cart with the upsell products, or only the additional upsell cost to upgrade with the replacement product.

  • Full design control: Design upsell pop-ups with custom CSS to match the brand and website design.

  • Hide out-of-stock upsells: Automatically hide any cross-sell or upsell offers when the products are out of stock.

  • Link to product page: Show an offer’s description and photos from its product page so buyers can get more information.

  • Schedule offers in advance: Save time by scheduling your offers in advance. The app lets you create a start and finish date for your upsell funnels.

  • Mobile-friendly: Display upsell offers beautifully to customers no matter the device they’re using.

Bold Upsell’s pros and cons

Bold Upsell's pros and cons
Bold Upsell's pros and cons

Pros:

Bold Upsell has many useful features as mentioned above, which makes it worth your money. Some more pros that I can mention are:

  • The ease of use: The app has many reviews confirming the ease of use by Shopify store owners

  • Time-saving: Without Bold Upsell, you may spend much time figuring out how to set up upsells and cross-sells for your business

  • Customer service: Bold Upsell’s merchant success team works for Bold Commerce, which means they also support other apps from the company, and you can ask about them in one place. You have live chat on most working days and can always send them an email explaining the problem.

  • Integrations: When installing Bold Upsell, you also have other tools to improve the upsell process like Bold Brain, Bold Product Options, Bold Discounts, Bold Subscriptions, or Google Analytics.

Cons:

Although Bold Upsell has its benefits, it does have some drawbacks that you should consider:

  • Pricing: Bold Upsell has no free pricing plan, which means you would need at least $9.99 per month to use the app. However, there is a 14-day free trial for every pricing plan.

  • Support: Like most companies, Bold Upsell has its hits and misses with customer support. The manpower for personal guidance is limited, so you need a more expensive package to have a dedicated account manager. For live chat and email support, you sometimes have to wait for days since they don’t work on Sunday and leave the workplace early on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

But to be fair to Bold Commerce, they have a very active page for support requests. This will help them fix problems before they can become a more serious problem.

Bold Upsell’s customer service

I have mentioned Bold Upsell’s service in the previous section, so let’s have a closer look at this aspect now.

Bold Upsell claims to have the experience and necessary manpower to deal with any issues or concerns whenever they arrive. However, if you want to have personal guidance, then you would need a more expensive package.

Why? Because the professional package has a dedicated account manager which ensures that you get the most out of the Bold Upsell experience. The Advanced kit also comes with priority support. Since Bold Commerce offers many products with many pricing plans, this helps them make sure high-paying customers get the best benefit.

So, what if you are a small company or an essential user?

Well, easily said, you’ll have to wait. Some users have reported waiting days for a response when some problems on the app happen or the checkout isn’t working. This results in 57 one-star ratings on the app’s Shopify page.

Of course, you can always reach out to the community help center to see if you can find solutions to your problems. If you are in Canada or the U.S, you can call the company directly at +1-204-808-8095. Their offices are located in Winnipeg, Canada, and Austin, United States.

Bold Upsell’s pricing plans

Bold Upsell's pricing plans

This is probably the part of this Bold Upsell review that you’re most interested in. You will be pleased to learn that Bold Upsell offers good value for money. They base the pricing plans on the number of monthly views your upsell offers have for a month. So the better reach your offers have, the more you pay, that can be a fair trade in my opinion.

Here’s a more comprehensive look at all of Bold Upsell’s pricing plans:

  • **Starter **- $9.99/month for 200 monthly views

  • **Plus **- $19.99/month for 1000 monthly views

  • **Premium **- $39.99.month for 2000 monthly views

  • **Pro **- $59.99/month for 5000 monthly views

  • **Enterprise **- $89.99/month for Unlimited monthly views

All pricing tiers have included the following features:

  • Upsell and cross-sell

  • Reports

  • Unlimited offers

  • Design & language customization

When you reach your pricing plan’s maximum views, you will receive an email informing you that you have reached the view limit along with an offer to upgrade the plan. Upsell views will be reset to zero on the first day of each month.

You also can upgrade and downgrade your pricing plan at any time. Shopify will automatically prorate your billing.

Final words

Don’t limit your sales by ignoring the value upsells can deliver for your Shopify store. With the Bold Upsell app, recommending an upgrade version of your products to consumers is easier than ever. The additional profit this app can bring in will soon justify the cost for it, no matter which pricing plan you use.

Best of all, Bold Upsell has many positive reviews from numerous happy users, so you can be sure that it will deliver great results.

That said, it’s important that your upselling strategy and app of choice don’t affect the customer’s buying process with your brand but enhance the purchasing experience.
