When it comes to making a thoughtful ethical purchase, new products are not always better! One of the easiest ways to shop ethically and sustainably is to purchase on Poshmark. With about 700,000 sellers and over a million buyers, the site is expected to have the right clothing, shoes, and accessories for any style! It also provides an exciting chance for people to launch a “side hustle” by selling clothes right out of their closet.

In this article, I will explain how you can start selling on Poshmark in just a few steps, as well as how you can thrive on this platform. Now, let’s jump right into the details!

What is Poshmark?

Poshmark is an eCommerce platform where people can buy and sell online fashion. As a merchant, you can create a virtual closet, list your items for whatever price you see fit, and lower prices when needed. Buyers may purchase items for listed prices or try to negotiate a lower price.

Besides being a place of eCommerce, it is also a social media network and a community. You can follow other accounts on the platform (especially vendors that have the same style as you or are the same size of clothing), go to “Posh Parties” and interact with others.

What are the benefits of selling on Poshmark?

There are a few things that brought popularity to Poshmark:

  • It’s easy: this is a smartphone app. You ‘re literally just taking pictures of your items and writing a description on your phone. You don’t even need to get on your computer.
  • Built-in buyer community: Poshmark estimates over 40 million consumers, 5 million of whom are sellers. That’s a pretty good ratio considering that you want more buyers than sellers when you’re looking for a marketplace. On top of that, Poshmark users browse the platform for an average of 23-27 minutes a day in the app!
  • Moderated Returns: One thing I don’t really like about eBay is dealing with returns. Even if it’s a bunk coming back over there, eBay is probably going to force you to accept it. You ‘re also the one who’s got to do the customer service. On Poshmark, the return demands are moderated. This means it is a lot harder for scammers to get through the system. The buyer needs to show the pictures to prove their claim. There are still no conditional returns or keep-and-refunds – which other eBay scammers have heard about.
  • Streamlined purchase/shipping process: When an item is sold, Poshmark will send you a shipping label. Print it out. Slap it on the package. Drop it in the postal room. You don’t need to go and weigh items or get shipping quotes. It’s a relatively simple and easy process.
  • Bargaining encouraged: I make a lot of sales by deals. Then I sell someone who likes my item at a cheaper price, or the interested party gives me a sell to accept. I always price my items a little over what I’m willing to accept anyway.
  • Social aspect included: it is a blessing and a curse. Poshmark is really “social” with users who like and post and blog. That might be good for sales. However, as is often the case in online communities where people are trying to create a community in order to make money, they demand a bit-for-tat. Someone loves your latest post; they ‘re hoping you to like one of theirs in exchange.
  • Tax remittances included: While I have been self-employed for 12 years now, taxes still scare me from living daylights. So the new sales tax across state boundaries just made the worries worse.

Honestly, this is the one thing that has kept me away from online reselling for so many years. Poshmark Remit collects and remits sales tax on all marketplace purchases so that sellers don’t have to worry about it at all. Well, thank goodness!

You can add things to your virtual closet after you create an account. You’ll need a few images of the piece, along with the following:

  • Product name
  • Description
  • Category
  • Size
  • Original Price
  • Listing Price

You can also enter other optional information:

  • Quantity (only if you are selling multiple items of something)
  • Brand
  • Color
  • New With Tags (this is a yes or no)

Before posting, you should always search both Poshmark and the Internet to see if you can find anyone else who ‘s selling or selling the item. This will give you some knowledge of how much you can actually sell on the web.

You should also look for initial lists of products to include MSRPs (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price), official product details, and quality photographs for reviews. Although it’s best to always include photos of the actual item you’re selling from every angle (with notes in the description of any wear and tear), try to use professional photos as a cover photo if possible. However, even though they are optional, I suggest you add a brand and a color to each list. And of course, if something still has tags on it, be sure to say yes to “new tags.”

When you determine prices on Poshmark for the first time, target big. You can still lower the price of an app object, but you’re not going to be able to go back up. Lower rates continue to market goods as they will give a message to those who like the item — and they will still be given cheaper delivery.

People can also offer you a price that they would like to pay for the item, and you can either accept or negotiate a higher price. The other thing to remember is that people in Poshmark have to pay for shipping as well. Dream of how much you’re going to pay for the object in a parcel shop and get out of there.

Knowing that Poshmark takes 20 percent of the listings over $15, and a flat $2.95 from sales under $15 (they pay for shipping!), you should set up your pricing accordingly. Pro Tip: Price your products at least 10% higher than the lowest price you’re willing to accept, otherwise you won’t have much room to negotiate with your customers.

After you sell something, you ‘re going to have to ship it to the buyer. Poshmark pays for shipping upfront, so all you have to do is print the prepaid shipping label that you are emailed after the sale is made, and stick it on the shipping box/bag.

Then you can bring it to the post office or pick it up from your home free of charge. When the customer gets their item, the money you make will be redeemable so you will deposit it into your bank account directly.

You can sell designer products and clothes from top retailers in Poshmark. Although it was easier to sell designer things, you can sell items from retailers including Target and LOFT. When you’ve got fashionable clothing to market, it doesn’t matter where they come from. Because of this, you should have everything in good condition up for sale now, no matter how old or new it is. Seasonality and trends don’t matter as much if you’ve got a quality item to sell.

If there is a defect, but the item is still wearable, you should mention it in the description of the product and post the photo. That way, consumers don’t feel like they’re being taken advantage of, so you can maintain a clear conscience (so seller rating!).

How to sell clothes on Poshmark: Key tips for success

It’s recommended to always do tons of research for products before I get in. Here are a few tips that you can refer to:

Get the name right

The title of the listing is so significant. Using this precious room to display the name of the company and the name of the products, if possible. Unless the model I’m listing doesn’t have a style name on it, I’m going to search for a style number and Google will try to find it. If anyone has their eyes set on a pair of ASOS Western Boots, you want to make sure your product appears in the search window.

Taking a lot of great photos

I’m trying to learn what I’m searching for as a customer. For example, when I list shoes, I not only take pictures of the top and sides but also of the soles. That’s where you can see how much they’ve actually been worn.

I take close-ups of pocket designs when selling jeans. I always make sure I have a picture of the knee. This is a spot that shows tears and wears. Using a clear, neutral backdrop: use a neutral backdrop, white if possible, and keep in mind that natural sunshine is best for lighting.

Spend time on your product descriptions

Apart from the photos, your customer will surely look at the description to find more information about the product. So make sure that you spend time writing appealing descriptions.

Do price research

you can price whatever you want on Poshmark. That doesn’t mean they’re going to sell for that if you’re not competitive – or realistic. “Comps” research, or comparable items. Browse around the app to see if similar items have been sold and how much. Only do a company check in Poshmark and a Sell Availability Filter.

Watch for promotion notifications

Poshmark occasionally sends a message saying that if you reduced your price by at least 10%, they would alert all of your “likers” and give them free shipping if they were ordered within six hours. So drop your prices, and take that opportunity. The take-away is allowing a little room in your prices for Poshmark’s promotions.

Take part in the Posh Parties

Poshmark hosts a variety of events a day. Each party focuses on a specific category. If your items fit, share them with the party. And share other people’s party items. It’s great exposure.

Offer a Bundle Discount

If you’ve bought or sold used items in the past, you ‘re likely to know the “lot” appeal. If you find a vendor with the same style and size as you do, you ‘re likely to buy a few of their items.

Poshmark allows sellers to offer discounts when they purchase multiple items at the same time. This could be to your advantage if you’re looking to clean your closet or reduce the time you spend packing and shipping the goods.

You should also look at what the Poshmark brands feature in their Parties. These are also the products that are leading in the store.

Be Active

You can save the listings as drafts and drop them out over time. Reshare the listings regularly. Follow, Like, and Share with the others. Unlike eBay, Poshmark is not a list-and-forget list. Poshmark loves the vendors to be active on the app.
