FAQs

What are tags used for in Shopify?

Tags in Shopify are versatile tools for product organization. They help create smart collections, improve internal search, enable filtering on collection pages, and assist with reporting and marketing. By using tags effectively, you can streamline store management and enhance the customer shopping experience.

Can I edit tags for multiple products simultaneously?

Yes, Shopify offers several methods for bulk editing tags. You can use the bulk editor in the admin interface, import/export CSV files, utilize the Shopify API (for developers), or employ third-party apps. Always double-check your changes after bulk editing to ensure accuracy.

Is there a limit to how many tags I can add to a product?

No. While there’s no strict limit, it’s best to use tags judiciously. Aim for 2-10 tags per product, focusing on the most relevant attributes. Excessive tags can impact performance and manageability. For complex categorization, consider using other tools like metafields. The goal is to create a tagging system that’s both comprehensive and manageable.

Do product tags affect SEO?

No. Product tags don’t directly impact SEO, but they can indirectly influence it. They improve internal site structure, enhance user experience, and can create more relevant collection pages. While tags contribute to a well-organized site, focus on optimizing product titles, descriptions, and meta tags for direct SEO impact.

Can customers see my product tags?

Yes. By default, customers can’t see your product tags directly. However, tags influence the customer experience by powering filter options, enhancing internal search results, and facilitating product recommendations. If you choose to make tags visible, ensure they’re clean, and consistent, and add value to the shopping experience.
